To Have Mothers, We Must First Have Women

To have mothers, we must first have women.

The world is indebted to the strength, wisdom, and fierce love that women have embodied for millennia.

Women have nurtured. Women have led. Women have loved. Women have taught. Women have learned. Women have suffered. Women have bled. Women have failed. Women have risen.

Women have chosen, and they will continue to choose. They deserve to choose.

The female body is a jewel, a gift to the world, whether or not it bears fruit, and whether or not any seed planted in it comes to fruition.

I have never had an abortion, but there were times I worried I might have to do so, and there have been times when I’ve held space for my sisters who have faced that often complicated choice.

Life is not simple. Neither is love, neither are women, and neither are mothers.

This Mother’s Day, The Write Parent stands with women, in all our complexities and power.

Here is one way you can support American women today.

Happy Mother’s Day, readers.
